Parent Shield: Literacy is Freedom

Ft. Worth, TX parent leaders realized that many parents didn’t understand their children’s reading level. They organized to provide free testing on student’s reading levels and worked to build a report to share with the community. Their organizing efforts led to a partnership with the mayor’s office, leading to city funding for a high-impact tutoring pilot.

Innovate Public Schools: Not All Tutoring is High-Impact Tutoring

Los Angeles, CA parents took action and organized to get more tutoring for Black, Latino, and low-income students. Their most recent organizing efforts in 2021 to address learning loss resulted in contributions from the mayors of South Gate and Huntington Park of over $200k to serve 52 students with free high-quality tutoring.
