Briana Jocelyn is a graduate student in the Policy, Organization, and Leadership Studies (POLS) master’s program. Briana is interested in the conditions required for schools to be places of sustained growth, joy, and success for students and staff. Before attending Stanford, Briana was an Assistant Principal and founding teacher at KIPP One Academy in Chicago, Illinois. Originally from Davenport, Iowa, Briana graduated with her degree in Education from the University of Iowa in 2012. Upon graduation, she taught for two years as a Teach for America corps member in Gary, Indiana. Since then, she led the reading team at KIPP One Academy as the fifth-grade literacy centers' teacher, seventh-grade U.S. history teacher, and literacy content team lead. As a teacher, her students led the network in reading results for four consecutive years and she was awarded the Harriett Ball Excellence in Teaching Award in 2019. Briana is passionate about teacher and leader development and is awed by the dedicated and hardworking practitioners across the country who put students first every day.
