  • Tutoring programs are those organizations that offer one-on-one and/or small group tutoring directly to students, either in-person, virtually, or through both modes of delivery.
  • Technology platforms are technology platforms that facilitate tutoring programs.
  • Interventions offer materials (e.g., an instructional scope and sequence, placement assessment, progress monitoring tools) that are used by a tutoring program, but do not offer tutoring directly.

This database is intended for Districts, States or nonprofits to identify potential tutoring partners, for potential tutors to identify potential employers and for tutoring organizations to have a clearer understanding of the landscape and to identify interventions that might be useful to their programs, if needed.

Please note that some of these programs are also listed on ProvenTutoring.org where you can find additional information on relevant research studies and costs.

With Common Ground Tutors, students are grouped by skill level into small cohorts of 4 students and receive personal attention during their 45-minute tutoring sessions, three times a week. Students learn best when they develop a long-term relationship with a tutor who knows them well, cares for them, and gives them the personal attention they need. This is key to academic achievement, as well as social-emotional learning. SEL and positive psychology are core guiding principles in all our work, as research shows that SEL is closely linked to improvement in academic performance. Additionally, a whole-child educational philosophy is key to our approach. We begin each session with artistic inspiration: a poem, song, movement exercise, and/or story grounded in wisdom. This engages the whole child in learning: “head, heart, and hands.” Students receive a healing education and build a strong holistic foundation for their future.

Edficiency is an online platform that allows teachers to create "sessions" for flex time and/or before/after-school tutoring on whatever topic they'd like, limiting it to whatever groups are appropriate. Teachers can request groups of students for specific interventions or request individual students over any time period. Students can then request to see teachers for specific sessions based on their needs. Admin are able to oversee this process and also request any student see any teacher at any time. Students that did not request anyone and were not requested by any teacher on a particular day are also all accounted for, being assigned to a teacher they know while balancing class sizes for teachers as needed. Administrators can easily look up any student's assignment or teacher's complete roster, as well as pull reports to inform their coaching of teachers or conferences with students, parents, and/or teachers to ensure the time is being used effectively.

EdLight is a platform to organize student work. Using EdLight's tutoring features, teachers can assign students to tutoring, specifying the standards / content for tutoring, and sharing any classwork / data that will allow the tutor to target their support. Tutors then share student work from each session back with teachers, allowing teachers to ensure that the tutoring is aligned to classwork and high quality. This intimate communication between teachers and tutors builds trust and allows teachers to confidently focus on grade level work during core instruction time.

HeyTutor's program vets, screens, and trains tutors directly from a district's community to serve students live, and in-person on their campus. Our inclusive Learning Gap Curriculum embraces extensive academic standards to provide students with a solid foundation across subjects. It often involves diagnostic assessments to identify learning gaps, followed by resources and activities aimed at closing those gaps and ensuring that all students can achieve the expected learning outcomes. Tutoring is embedded during the school day with push in or pull out sessions or before/after school alongside childcare and enrichment opportunities. HeyTutor can also leverage district curriculum to support in-classroom initiatives.

Knoyo connects students from all walks of life so they may share their individual experiences and knowledge. Our tutors are college honors students from universities all across the country, from junior colleges to the Ivy League, to ensure that there's a perfect tutor for each student. We created this space to foster these invaluable connections, giving students a strong foundation to grow from.

Our program serves grade 6 - 12 students who:

  • Have significant learning gaps or need acceleration in core subjects
  • Are in danger of falling behind on meeting academic standards
  • Need a confidence boost

How do lessons work?

  • You choose the best time and day to deliver the lesson to your students. Let us know the curriculum to follow, and any key learning gaps.
  • Students are matched with one of our tutors based on their needs and requirements. Our tutors are friendly, near-peer role models studying at top colleges. They all have recent exam experience and top grades in the subject they teach.
  • Students log on to the platform each week, individually, and have a 55-min live lesson with their tutor.

PeerSquared helps those serving K-12 students build peer tutoring programs, so all their students can have accessible, effective, and relatable academic support for better grades and engagement. Unlike other companies serving tutoring needs, we deliver a comprehensive solution by helping our partners train and manage the program's high school tutors, working with all stakeholders to increase utilization, and deploying a tutoring platform to facilitate 1-on-1 tutoring sessions in-person or virtually.

Frequency: TbT tutoring programs will meet for 2-4 60-minute sessions per week.

Group Size: Consistent, leveled small groups are limited to 5 students with similar academic needs.

Personnel: Small groups are led by the same Teacher Tutor for the duration of the program, allowing for relationship building and responsive instruction. All Teacher Tutors are credentialed or experienced, professional educators with extensive classroom teaching experience, related degrees, and training in culturally responsive instruction.

Measurement: Programs are anchored around formative assessments to identify key skills and monitor progress.

Curriculum: The tutoring program is aligned to school programming and needs, allowing for rigor, continuity, and alignment to state standards.

TbT designs programs consultatively by meeting with school and district staff to determine student counts, grade levels, subject areas to serve, and scheduling. TbT then spends time before the tutoring program launches to determine leveled student groupings and focus skills / standards based on student data, align content to school needs, and select and train Teacher Tutors with professional backgrounds that match the students they will serve. TbT designs the tutoring scope and sequence, plans lessons, and selects instructional materials based on unique student groups (grade level, focus skills, interests).

TbT implements skills-based tutoring aligned to applicable state standards. To ensure that all instruction is aligned to state standards and customized to school needs, TbT reviews the school’s curriculum and school-provided student academic data. TbT can also customize programming to specifically tie tutoring sessions to a school’s curriculum and the corresponding scope and sequence.
