  • Tutoring programs are those organizations that offer one-on-one and/or small group tutoring directly to students, either in-person, virtually, or through both modes of delivery.
  • Technology platforms are technology platforms that facilitate tutoring programs.
  • Interventions offer materials (e.g., an instructional scope and sequence, placement assessment, progress monitoring tools) that are used by a tutoring program, but do not offer tutoring directly.

This database is intended for Districts, States or nonprofits to identify potential tutoring partners, for potential tutors to identify potential employers and for tutoring organizations to have a clearer understanding of the landscape and to identify interventions that might be useful to their programs, if needed.

Please note that some of these programs are also listed on ProvenTutoring.org where you can find additional information on relevant research studies and costs.

As a foundation for the services Axiom Learning will provide to interested parties, we have developed some of the most powerful tools available anywhere in the world which have the potential to help millions of students worldwide. Through our 1-on-1 Learning Laboratories, technology-driven, cutting-edge technology tools, our transformative set of interventions for kids with learning challenges, Axiom is dedicated to spending the next several years of our journey scaling what we have to reach as many as kids around the world as we can.

Specific to this program, Axiom Learning has provided tutoring services for K-12 schools within an urban public school district, including from September 2021 to the present with the Boston Public School District at New Mission High School and from August 2018 to the present with Summit Public Schools.

During this period, Axiom Learning’s service offerings exemplify the relevant qualifications and components we will bring to our engagement with interested parties, including:

  • Weekly small-group tutoring sessions with around seventy-five (75) students struggling throughout middle and high school
  • Direct teacher training and support
  • Support and collaboration with the school(s) in developing appropriate lessons and materials for their students
  • Clyde Hill, WAThree (3) quarterly meetings and collaboration on grant reports with school leadership to evaluate/reflect on implementation

The AERO program consists of online assessments and progress monitoring tools and over 200 lessons across three levels. The AERO program uses online assessments to create and implement individualized instructional plans that are delivered in small groups of students (two to three students at a time). The AERO program includes curriculum-based measures that help AERO Instructors know which skills to focus on during the sessions and monitor students' mastery of taught concepts to make instructional adjustments. AERO's curriculum and assessment resources are housed on the Children Learning Institute's (CLI) online platform, CLI Engage, which allows the majority of the award gift to be allocated to instructional support for students and professional development for AERO implementation.

City Year's AmeriCorps members serving as Student Success Coaches (SSCs) are diverse young adults who serve full-time on teams in systemically under-resourced K-12 schools. They implement City Year's core Whole School Whole Child program, forming near-peer, developmental relationships and providing research-based, integrated social, emotional and academic supports for students, combined with whole classroom and school supports to enable rich learning environments. City Year's SSCs partner with teachers to provide supplemental capacity and personalize the learning environment. They use youth development strategies and student data on social emotional skills and early warning indicators of high school graduation and post-secondary success, such as attendance, behavior and ELA and math course performance, to accelerate students' holistic development.

Enhanced Core Reading Instruction is a multi-tiered program (Tier 1 and Tier 2) featuring a series of teaching routines designed to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of reading instruction in kindergarten, first and second grade.

AARP Foundation's Experience Corps is an intergenerational volunteer-based tutoring program that is proven to help children who aren’t reading at grade level become great readers by the end of third grade.

Future Forward is an early literacy intervention that provides individualized one-on-one tutoring and family engagement for kindergarten through 3rd grade struggling readers. With a focus on improving educational equity and promoting a more just society, Helps Education Fund provides evidence-based programs and services that are free or low-cost and meaningfully advance student learning.

Higher Achievement offers small-group academic mentoring in math and humanities/ELA for middle grade students. It has been the subject of two randomized controlled trial studies by MDRC, both of which demonstrated positive academic effects.

Intervenciones tempranas de la lectura is designed to work comfortably with a variety of existing core programs to provide the significant increase in the intensity of instruction in the critical strands of beginning reading—phonemic awareness, graphophonemic awareness, the structure of language (Spanish), aural language fluency, decoding fluency, and comprehension. Intervenciones tempranas de la lectura is a Spanish language parallel format to SRA Early Interventions in Reading providing language?specific instruction for early reading in the Spanish language. In designing the reading intervention, the developers applied research on the sequence and development of Spanish literacy acquisition to the same instructional design principles used to create Proactive Reading. The result was a curriculum that was different in terms of the sequence and focus of instructional content, but similar in terms of instructional design and delivery. Thus, teachers delivered explicit instruction designed to assist students in the integrated and fluent use of alphabetic knowledge and comprehension strategies. The 120 lessons represent the language?specific progression of skills from kindergarten through the end of first grade.

As part of Jumpstart’s mission to ensure children enter kindergarten prepared to succeed, college student volunteers work to provide high-quality services to children through Jumpstart classroom service and planning. Jumpstart provides volunteers with the training, coaching, and support to ensure that all of Jumpstart’s activities provide children with high-quality, developmentally appropriate experiences and supportive interactions with well-trained adults.

Lindamood-Bell is an international literacy organization that offers specific evidence-based programs to address decoding and comprehension skills, thereby positively affecting academic performance. Start Making a Reader Today® (SMART®) is a volunteer program widely implemented in Oregon for students in grades preK-3 who are at risk of reading failure. The program is designed to be a low-cost, easy-to-implement intervention. Volunteer readers go into schools where at least 40% of students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch and read one-on-one with students twice a week for half an hour. Typically, one volunteer works with two children on four types of activities: reading to the child, reading with the child, re-reading with the child, and asking the child questions about what has been read. The program also gives each student two new books a month to encourage families to read together.
